Starvation in Ethiopia
For this project we started by researching big problems that are seen in the world. My group that was made up of Caitlin Dwyer, Jessica Stewart, and Alex Sheron knew we wanted to do hunger right from the start. We researched where it is the worst. The results were that Africa had the highest percentage of starvation. We looked into it further and we decided to start in Ethiopia just until our non profit got going a little bit more and we got more funding. Our solution to this problem was to make a nutrient packed bar that could keep the people of Ethiopia full. This would be a non profit organization and we would get funding and we would also sell these bars in California so we could raise money for bars being sent to Ethiopia. I learned a lot about hunger statistics and how serious tis really is so i worked on the physics of building the factory, but i also learned about a real world problem and how i can do my part to help solve it.
Content
There wasn't really a lot of content in this project. It was more researching and a lot of planning and making the bars. There was some engineering we used for the factory, but it was mostly just about how big the building was going to be and where all of the stations were going to be.
Reflection
This project was really an interesting one to do. It really gets you thinking of all of these big world problems that most of us aren't paying attention to and not doing a lot to help it. I think my group was very efficient. We knew what we were going to do and set out and did it. Each one of us had a job to do and we completed them successfully. What we probably could have worked on was doing a little more research on the costs of everything. I gained a few skills from this project. I know now that I can help the world in many ways. I also learned that every little bit counts and a lot goes along way. Our biggest peak was probably our slideshow and ho we actually made the bar. Our pit was probably not knowing the costs and details like that as well as we should have. Overall I liked this project and my group worked well together and we worked very efficiently and had a good success.
